Lucian and Joseph,

Watched the crush at Blumenhoff today. Following is description I just
received of the Crimson Cabernet

"Should've taken a picture of the juice. Really nice ruby color, tasted like
raspberries, blueberries and strawberries.

Next year I'd like to make a carboy of rose if I can remember to.
That color is just amazing."

Brix = 24.1
pH = 3.57
TA = 0.6

The harvest went great.

The Chemistry was
Crimson Cabernet pH=3.48  BX=22.7  TA=0.69
Cabernet Dore' pH=3.41  BX=23.2  TA=0.87
And the flavors are really great.

Lucian,

We just shared a bottle of the 2013 Crimson Cabernet with family and
friends.  We compared it to a reputable Norton (will not name).  There is no
comparison. The Norton was pretty good....but it is still rough around the
edges. However the Crimson Cabernet is so much more refined and
complex with an outstanding mouth feel and fabulous finish. I am extremely
proud of this first vintage.  Thank you for inventing it. It is a real step up for
Missouri dry reds.

Lucian -

Thought I would share a past weekend event with you.  I held a customer
appreciation day on Sunday and then auctioned off the 1st ever bottle of my
Crimson Cab for charity and it went for the sum of $600.

By the way – we have likely never had a vintage year like we are experiencing
with this one and
disease is rampart – downy, botrytis, etc and I’m currently
not seeing anything in the Crimson Cabernet so that will be another
important discussion point.

Thanks for the heads up. Crimson Cabs look great , no winter kill . They did
wake up a couple weeks later which was good.

Thanks Again

Hi Lucian,

The DVR vines have been ‘stars’ this year.  They are all alive and doing well.
The Norton is also on track.  I will have very little Vidal Blanc, which really
surprises me since so much is grown in the north.  All of the vinifera, cab
sauv, mourvedre, viognier and pinot gris was frozen back to the graft.  We are
still deciding what to keep, if any.

(We lost)… about 1/4 of our vineyard this winter.
Had we lost the entire vineyard this winter, it is doubtful we would
continue forward.

However, the DVR vines along with Norton
carried the day making it through this freezing winter unscathed.
Our story is very supportive of DVR vines.

Hi lucian,

The (2018) Crimson Cabernet plants we got from you grew great
this summer, most are up to 6 ft tall and look nice and healthy

Hi Lucian,                                                     November 2, 2018

Just wanted to drop you a line and tell you how great the (2018)
Crimson Cabernet vines performed this year.

I just took the grow tubes off last week.

The only thing I had to battle  a little bit was some Downy Mildew, and a few
Japanese Beatles.

Most of the trunks are about 1/2" in diameter, and a strong  3/8" Cordon
growing to one side.

The additional rainfall, ripping the rows down 2 feet deep, and keeping the
vines "suckered", certainly helped to promote growth and strong root
establishment.

I only had 3 vines that didn't make it.

I'll be ready for the rest of our order next spring.

Thanks again!

Lucian and Joseph,

All I’ve had to work with… up until now… was a “collection of ukuleles”.

With Crimson Cabernet, it’s as if someone handed me a Spanish guitar.

Thank you for addressing the pick to ferment timing question.

We have followed all of your recommendations for the 2017 crop.
The grapes this year are wonderful and we are happy with the results
your recommendations have brought.

Lucian and Joseph:

Here are some pictures of this years Crimson Cabernet vines
and grapes.  They survived two polar vortexes and are producing
this year.  Since they like to grow straight up, we are putting
them on VSP, the easiest trellising system for them and it
works with our mechanical barrel pruner to shorten the job.

Appreciate you notes on how to handle them and make better
wines with them.

Your advice on tilling the fescue up made all the difference in the
world. I will send you a couple of photos even in this drought the
growth is great and I am seeing some fruit set .The Crimson Cabs
handled the frost better than anything else.

Thanks
