Watched the crush at Blumenhoff today. Following is description I just
received of the Crimson Cabernet

"Should've taken a picture of the juice. Really nice ruby color, tasted like
raspberries, blueberries and strawberries.

Next year I'd like to make a carboy of rose if I can remember to.
That color is just amazing."

Brix = 24.1
pH = 3.57
TA = 0.6

The harvest went great.

The Chemistry was
Crimson Cabernet pH=3.48  BX=22.7  TA=0.69
Cabernet Dore' pH=3.41  BX=23.2  TA=0.87
And the flavors are really great.

We just shared a bottle of the 2013 Crimson Cabernet with family and
friends.  We compared it to a reputable Norton (will not name).  There is no
comparison. The Norton was pretty good....but it is still rough around the
edges. However the Crimson Cabernet is so much more refined and
complex with an outstanding mouth feel and fabulous finish. I am extremely
proud of this first vintage.  Thank you for inventing it. It is a real step up for
Missouri dry reds.

Thought I would share a past weekend event with you.  I held a customer
appreciation day on Sunday and then auctioned off the 1st ever bottle of my
Crimson Cab for charity and it went for the sum of $600.

By the way – we have likely never had a vintage year like we are experiencing
with this one and
disease is rampart – downy, botrytis, etc and I’m currently
not seeing anything in the Crimson Cabernet so that will be another
important discussion point.

Hi Lucian,

The DVR vines have been ‘stars’ this year.  They are all alive and doing well.  
The Norton is also on track.  I will have very little Vidal Blanc, which really
surprises me since so much is grown in the north.  All of the vinifera, cab
sauv, mourvedre, viognier and pinot gris was frozen back to the graft.  We are
still deciding what to keep, if any.

(We lost)… about 1/4 of our vineyard this winter.
Had we lost the entire vineyard this winter, it is doubtful we would
continue forward.

However, the DVR vines along with Norton
carried the day making it through this freezing winter unscathed.
Our story is very supportive of DVR vines.
